Children who are aged between 1 to 3 years are known as Toddlers. Toddlers have soft and highly sensitive skin. That's why parents need to take care of their skin. Parents must be more aware of their kid's skin so that their skin can remain clean, smooth, and infection free.
Toddlers are always active and go through dirt, dust, and sweat more than usual. So as parents, you must ensure you can take their intense care without hampering their playfulness.
Here are some best tips to take care of your toddler skin better:
Always use gentle soaps or cleansers when washing your toddler's face, hands, or body. Ensure that soaps or cleansers must be free from fragrance, synthetic chemicals, and harsh dyes. Choose mild, gentle, and safe cleansers or bar soaps to remove dirt and bacteria from their body.
Always keep your toddler's bath time short. Do not exceed more than 10-15 minutes. Your toddler's skin will dry up more quickly than usual if they spend too much time in soapy and foamy water.
Many soaps wash away the natural oils from the skin, making it more difficult for a toddler's skin to maintain moisture. So after everyday bath, make sure to apply moisturiser or baby oil to keep the skin smooth. Choose scent-free oils and lotions or go with natural products like almond oil or doctor's recommended body oil.
Though it is recommended to keep toddlers under the sun, it is in the morning time and that too also for a little time. So whenever your toddler is going outside to play, apply sunscreen with SPF 30 or more. Apply it before 20 to 30 mins of going outside because it takes little time to start working. Sunscreen not only helps to keep their skin safe but also helps to avoid any burns. However, it is best to avoid going outside between 11 am to 3 pm due to extremely high UV rays, especially in summer.
Since toddlers' skin is very sensitive, you should dress them accordingly. Cotton clothes are mostly preferred due to their better comfort. Avoid nylon or any other synthetic type of cloth since they can be itchy. Wash their clothes regularly with warm water.
No matter what precautions you take, always pay attention to their skin, particularly the areas on their thighs, bottom, and genital. Make sure you keep an eye on their skin because these areas are the most prone to rash attacks. Apply fragrance-free baby powder to any areas of their skin that do flare up, and if it persists for a longer period than usual, visit the paediatrician.
As a toddler's skin is different from a school-age child's, you must use a doctor's recommended product. But in general, also you must use chemical free, parabens free, sodium lauryl sulfate free products to avoid any negative reactions.
