The Meta-owned instant messaging platform, Whatsapp, is currently grabbing its users’ attention by continuously announcing new features in its platform.
According to a report, the company is working on a feature called “Silence Unknown Callers.” The feature will allow its users to silence calls from unknown numbers while still displaying them in the notification bar and call list.
WABetaInfo reports that the feature “silence unknown callers” is currently being developed for the Android beta version of WhatsApp. It not only reduces interruptions but also helps users to avoid spam calls, making it even more beneficial for them.
The report suggests that users can access the toggle feature in the app settings for the “Silence unknown callers.” If they activate it, the incoming calls from unknown numbers will be muted but will still appear in the notification bar and call list.
Keeping in mind the theme for International Women’s Day, ‘DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality, let’s quickly look at WhatsApp’s top privacy features:
Allow users to choose people
WhatsApp facilitates users to choose with whom they want to talk. It is a private and secure place to communicate with their known ones or the people who have your phone number. However, the problem arises when users receive messages from unknown numbers. WhatsApp has already provided users an easy way to ‘Block and Report’ their account to WhatsApp. Blocked contacts or numbers can no longer call or send you messages.
Allow more control over the privacy of your messages
WhatsApp provides end-to-end encryption for text messages, photos, voice messages, videos, calls, documents, and status updates. Moreover, it allows several privacy features, such as disappearing messages which disappear within twenty-four hours, seven days, or ninety days depending on the time you choose. It has also added a layer of security by adding a feature of “view once.”
Group privacy settings
The privacy settings and group invite system of WhatsApp enable the users to decide whom they want to add to the groups and whom they don’t want to keep. Additionally, if the user does not want to be part of the group, they can choose to leave the group privately without notifying everyone.
Control of your online information
WhatsApp users can manage their personal details like – profile photo, online status, about, last seen, status, and who views it by choosing who can access their online information – everyone, Contacts Only, Selected Contacts, or None. Even you can control your online presence by choosing who can and can’t see when you’re online.
Protect your account privacy
WhatsApp allows its users to add double security to their accounts by allowing the two-step verification process. The feature requires a six-digit PIN when resetting and verifying your WhatsApp account. It is too much helpful in case the SIM card or the phone is stolen.
