Google To Add AI Features In Docs, Gmail

Google and Microsoft are vying with one another to embed generative AI as much as possible into their productivity products. Prior to Microsoft’s “Future of Work” presentation, Google unveiled a significant update to Workspace that will integrate its generative AI models into nearly every area of its productivity suite.

Google revealed in a blog post that users would be able to generate text in Gmail and Docs using its own generative AI technology. In the near future, these two applications will be able to rapidly generate content on any particular topic, allowing users to elaborate or modify the text’s tone to meet their requirements, whether they wish to convey a light or professional tone.

The announcement shows Google’s determination to compete with its up-and-coming AI rivals. The search engine giant has been working hard to roll out equivalent AI capabilities in the wake of the launch of ChatGPT the year before and the launch of Microsoft’s chatbot-powered Bing in February. According to reports, the company declared a “code red” in December, asking staff to quickly incorporate AI tools into all of its user-facing products within a few months, which are used by billions of people.

Google has introduced a number of new updates to its Workspace application suite, which consists of Docs, Gmail, Slides, and Sheets. Below is a list of what users can do with these tools, as stated by the company.

Gmail: In Gmail, you may prioritise, summarise, and create a draft for your emails.

Docs: Using Docs, you can brainstorm, edit, write, and rewrite documents together.

Slides: With the help of auto-generated pictures, audio, and video in Slides, you may improve your presentations.

Sheets: Auto-completion, formula generation, and contextual classification in Sheets help to gain an understanding and analyse raw data.

Meet: Use Meet to customise backgrounds and take notes during video calls.

Chat: Chat can be used to improve workflows and streamline communication.

Google has announced that its next updates to Docs and Gmail will contain AI-powered features that create a draft text as soon as you type a few words about the subject you want to write about. Then, with the help of more AI ideas, these documents can be further enhanced and modified.
